2nd Floor Slab Thickness

Design process includes proper assumption of structural element sizes and then check.
2nd floor slab thickness. There are two main types of subflooring plywood and oriented strand board or osb. Electrical layout for ground floor lighting and second floor outlet. Minimum thickness of concrete slab beam column foundation and other structural members is selected to meet the design requirements as per standard codes. Subflooring only adds 3 4 inch to the floor thickness.
The bulk of the floor s thickness comes from the joists which are the horizontal beams that carry the floor s weight. Both come in 4 by 8 sheets and feature tongue and groove installation. The specification for the floor of a maintenance building called for a 6 inch slab thickness and concrete with a design compressive strength of 3000 psi. Four months after the floor was placed 10 cores were drilled measured and tested in compression.
The actual average cylinder strength for the floor concrete was 3630 psi. Construction adhesive is used between the joists and the subfloor but it does not measurably add to the thickness of the floor.
